Rainproof car mirror sticker looks great -- but how long does it last?

This clear sticker is made from a material that instantly sheds water. Why don't car manufacturers pre-treat the side view mirrors, and all the glass on cars for that matter, with this stuff? I suspect the effect wears off over time. Has anyone had experience with these?
