NPR has a weirdly fascinating story about an ex-FBI and IRS criminal investigator who has now turned his attention to … apples. In what sounds like a grimdark espionage reboot of Johnny Appleseed starring Nick Cage, Lost Apple Project is the brainchild of David Benscoter and the Whitman Historical Society of Washington State, who seek out rare breeds of apples — most of which are believed to have died out a hundred years ago or more — and aim to revitalize them. — Read the rest
