Chris Notap is one of the few recreational mousetrap builders that I'm aware of. He shows of his whimsical, no-kill traps on his YouTube channel. Here's his latest, which uses a 3-inch diameter section of PVC pipe.
This is one of the best and easiest homemade humane rat/mouse traps! Easy to build, easy to bait, easy to release and best of all, it's humane and there's no springs or levers to wind up or load! The mouse, rat or vole cannot escape or chew his way out of this mouse trap. Mice and rats are not harmed in any way during capture.
